ALM, a leading provider of strategic business intelligence and publisher of insurance publications such as NU Property & Casualty Magazine and Claims Magazine, is offering a free three-week course on insurance career development at Miami Dade College beginning Nov. 2, 2022. Executives from leading insurers like EverestRe, The Hartford, PURE Insurance and Evonik will encourage students who are currently in the job market to consider pursuing insurance careers.
Throughout the course, students will be introduced to various networking and internship opportunities, as well as provided with hands-on support. This initiative directly connects the industry, which has been experiencing ongoing hiring needs, with a unique talent pool at one of the most diverse institutions in the nation.
“We have been talking about the talent gap and hiring crisis in insurance and other industries for years. We wanted to take real steps toward addressing that problem while simultaneously exposing new people to careers in insurance,” stated Bill Carter, chief executive officer of ALM. “As thought leaders with deep and trusted expertise across a variety of industries, ALM is uniquely positioned to help tackle this problem while making a positive impact in the community.”
The course, offered through Miami Dade College’s School of Continuing Education and Professional Development, will introduce students and working professionals to the world of insurance by leveraging Hollywood-style videos, role-playing exercises and mentorship opportunities from the insurance industry’s top executives.
Tasha Norman, ALM senior director, corporate responsibility and market development, was integral in developing this initiative through her role on ALM’s corporate social responsibility committee.
“My work through the Young Professionals Network has brought to light the recruitment challenges of the insurance industry,” shared Norman. “We felt it was important to reach out directly to the community to provide education where its most needed and nurture individuals who have the ability to push the insurance industry ahead.”
“Our goal is to provide our students with direct access to businesses so they may develop real-world experience and further their career development,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, executive vice president and provost at Miami Dade College. “We are thankful ALM has facilitated this opportunity for our students and know they will garner tremendous value from the lessons in this course.”
This program is available to Miami-Dade College students in addition to members of the local community and the public. For more information about the course and to enroll, please visit: https://cepdhome.webflow.io/insurance-literacy-program.
