Ted Olson, Charles Duhigg Among Keynote Speakers at LegalTech New York 2013

NEW YORK – January 3, 2013 – ALM’s LegalTech New York, the largest and most prestigious legal technology event in the world, will feature leading voices from law firms, law enforcement and the judiciary when it takes place January 29-31, 2013, at The Hilton New York in midtown Manhattan.

The opening keynote address will be delivered on Tuesday, January 29th by Theodore B. Olson, former Solicitor General of the United States, and currently a Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Olson will provide a detailed look at recent and upcoming Supreme Court cases, examining possible implications on privacy rights in the digital age, health care reform, immigration, copyright law and more. The day one keynote is CLE eligible and is hosted by KPMG and Content Analyst.

The day two keynote on January 30th will consist of a CLE-eligible presentation conducted in the model of an interactive talk show. Moderated by Patrick Oot, Co-Founder of the Electronic Discovery Institute and Special Counsel to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the session will feature a panel of experts who will explore timely issues such as big data, proportionality and data security, from a judicial perspective. Panelists include: The Hon. Michael M. Baylson, Senior Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; The Hon. Andrew J. Peck, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York; The Hon. Thomas I. Vanaskie, Circuit Judge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; and Matthew V. Gillis, Vice President and Managing Director, LexisNexis Litigation Solutions & Professional Services. This presentation is hosted by LexisNexis.

The day three keynote on January 31st will be delivered by Charles Duhigg, best-selling author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, and an investigative reporter for The New York Times. Duhigg will explore how the legal industry, which is notoriously resistant to change, can use the science of habit formation to change its ways and, ultimately, serve clients better. This presentation is hosted by DiscoverReady.  All keynote addresses are complimentary and open to all conference attendees.

The closing plenary address, which is also open to all conference attendees, will be delivered on Thursday, January 31st by Raymond W. Kelly, Police Commissioner for the City of New York.

LegalTech New York 2013 features 20 tracks of educational programming across all three days, as well as daily “emerging technology” sessions and “super sessions” open to everyone. Attendees are eligible to earn up to 16.5 CLE credits, including as many as 6.5 CLE ethics credits, over the course of the show.

The conference is expected to attract nearly 13,000 attendees and will feature more than 350 exhibit booths offering a wide range of legal technology products and services.
